Thousands packed the downtown area yesterday for one of the largest St. Patrick's Day celebration on record.  Marching in the parade were local bands, dance troupes, bagpipe players, local and NYPD firefighters, as well as numerous alumni groups from the Northeast and Midwest.  A sea of green-clad revelers enjoyed the festivities while only the babies and dogs seemed to sleep in oblivious comfort.
