Naples Town Hall Distinguished Speakers Series
For several years one of my favorite Naples activities has been to attend the Naples Town Hall Lecture Series. This amazing forum, in its 26th year, brings to Naples some of the most renowned national and international speakers from a variety of different fields. Topics covered have included economics, politics, history, science, business, as well as national and global issues. I feel that Neapolitans are very fortunate to have a forum such as this that is so intellectually stimulating.
I must admit that when I first saw that one of this year's speakers would be Mia Farrow, I was most disappointed. However, I was truly surprised with the profound message that she delivered. As a child survivor of polio, Mia Farrow learned at an early age, through loss and despair, to focus on the true meaning of life. She defines this as a sense of responsibility to others: family, friends, the earth, those less fortunate, and God. She now devotes her life to her 14 children and the victims of genocide in the Darfur Region of Sudan. As a UNICEF Ambassador, she visits the region frequently and illustrates through her photographs the dire need for our support.
