Naples Council on World Affairs Lecture Series, Naples Florida
Once again, I find myself writing about Naples' greatest resource: its people. Those who have chosen to live here bring a wealth of talent, expertise, and desire to make this community a model for cultural and intellectual growth. The Naples Council on World Affairs, a non-profit all-volunteer organization founded to "promote people-to-people diplomacy" and "build new community relationships," offers an annual lecture series which brings to Naples nationally recognized speakers to discuss global issues of vital interest.
This year's distinguished speakers and topics include:
- Forecast for 2009, Dr. Friedman, a leader in the field of private intelligence. Jan. 5
- The Future of America's Intelligence, The Honorable Porter Goss, former member of the House Oversight Committee on Intelligence & former Director of the CIA. Jan. 19
- Saving Afghanistan, Professor Barnett Rubin, Senior Fellow & Director of Studies at New York University's Center on International Cooperation. Feb. 2
- Jordan's Road to Diplomacy, Prince Zeid bin Ra'ad Al Hussein, Jordan's Ambassador to the U.S., Feb. 16
- An Uncommon Defense for the 21st Century, Lt. Colonel Isaiah Wilson III, Director of American Politics, Public Policy & Strategy at West Point. Mar. 2
- The Balance of Power in World Economics, Richard W. Fisher, President & CEO of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas. Mar. 16
- The Great Energy Game, Frank Verratro, Director for the Center for Strategic & International Studies Energy Program. Apr. 6
I suggest that you go to th NWCA website to learn about this wonderful organization and its outreach program to local high school students. In order to attend the lecture series, you must become a member of NWCA - and for many years there has been a long waiting list. However, the good news is that you can listen to the programs on WGCU Public Radio or click the link to these broadcasts on the NCWA website: http://www.ncwa-fl.org
