Five Guys in Naples

Just when those New Year's Resolutions are made (which always include losing the pounds gained over the holidays), I was introduced to the greatest new hamburger restaurant in town!  Even though I frequently drive by the two new Five Guys in Naples, I was unfamiliar with them. My recent house guests from Arlington, VA, the birthplace of the establishment, invited me to join them for what they described as "the best hamburger I'd ever taste."  I must admit that I had my doubts about another hamburger joint, but I was in for a real surprise.

Five Guys, founded by a father and his four sons, is now owned by the father's five sons. What makes it unique?  They serve the juiciest hamburgers, made of fresh ground beef with 15 kinds of delectable toppings.  There are no freezers, so none of the ingredients are ever frozen.  They use only Idaho potatoes fried in peanut oil and the entire menu is trans-fat-free.

You can snack on in-the-shell peanuts while you wait for your order to be prepared.  The burger (or kosher-style hot dog) is marked on the packaging by the order in which you placed it - e.g. who was first in line in your group.

Five Guys was founded in 1986 and began to franchise in 2001.  According to their website, as of November 2008, there are now over 300 locations.  In Naples we are fortunate to have two of the new ones at the corners of Pine Ridge and Goodlette-Frank and also at Pine Ridge and Livingston.
