Southwest Florida International Airport (RSW)
As I mentioned yesterday, one factor that many newcomers consider in relocating or buying a second home is its proximity to a major airport. For those unfamiliar with Southwest Florida, I'd like to share some information on the recently revamped SWFL International Airport located 10 miles south of Ft. Myers, a short 30 minute drive from Naples. At a cost of $ 438 million, RSW www.flylcpa.com opened its new terminal in September 2005. With 21 carriers, it serves 36 domestic and 2 international destinations, including Germany and Canada. I'm told that in the future they hope to expand international service to the UK. In 2007 over 8 million passengers passed through the terminal.
RWS was designed with travelers' convenience in mind. For those waiting on arrivals, a free cell phone parking lot eliminates the hassle of driving around and keeps traffic congestion to a minimum. (Police on Segways make certain you don't linger in front of arrival exits!) Rental agencies are conveniently located immediately outside the terminal; and with a reservation, you literally pick up your luggage and hop into the rental car.
