State-of-the-Art Technology at Naples Community Hospital

Naples Community Hospital System offers the latest in innovative technology, providing and facilitating service that rivals the finest medical centers in the U.S.  For example, in 2005 NCH purchased the Da Vinci System, a robotic instrument designed for minimally invasive surgeries.  It is currently used for prostate cancer treatment and hysterectomies. I personally had the experience of manipulating the robotic arms to grab and move a penny located on the operating table several feet away.

In addition, a few years ago NCH was the 17th institution in the world to purchase a CyberKnife which is used to robotically deliver radiation to cancerous tumors.  I am told that the walls and ceiling of the room are lined with almost 900,000 pounds of lead - 8" thick - to contain the radiation.

The latest technology to be implemented includes a "Language Access Network" that provides video/audio interpretation services in 150 languages.  Two weeks ago Naples Community Hospitals started to use a computerized system for physicians to enter their orders for medications, diagnostic testing and lab work.  This will certainly eliminate problems in reading illegible physicians' handwriting!
